Research Team: Marathon Oil

Marathon Oil Company is recognized internationally for its broad expertise in fractured reservoir technology. The company is currently operator for several fractured reservoir fields worldwide. Recently, Marathon Oil Company applied for a patent on its TAGS process. The preliminary use of TAGS at Yates Field has already yielded a 20% increase in oil production during the last thirty months, while also improving recovery and operating efficiency.

Cooperative research carried out with Stanford University on the behavior of unconfined oil columns in domestic oil reservoirs..

Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage Technology Research
Sponsor: Marathon Oil
Research for development of the concept of steam assisted gravity drainage for recovery of unfractured tar sand, and unfractured thermal oil recovery from gas caps underlain by an unconfined oil column. Research was based on the Smackover Field, Arkansas.
